Do you know what you are singing?

Music. The guaranteed subject to start an argument. If you ever feel like getting in an argument find some church type setting and start talking about music. The argument “I can not understand the words” is lame and old. I have my new rebuttal to that worn out line. “You do not believe the words you do understand and sing.” Some things may never go away.

Break my heart with what breaks Yours
-from the song “Hosanna”

The times are now countless on how many times I have seen this song played and sung in a church gathering. Like usual, because it is the new hip thing to do in church gatherings, many people have hands raised high and appear to be singing in a heart felt manor. I have no issue with raising your hands to a song. The issue is do you know why you are? Do you really know what it means?

A Few Projects

It has been a little slow here over the past week. That does not mean I have been slacking. I have been hard at work on a few projects. Both projects (at the time of this post) are represented to the right in two banner ads. You can click on them to go to their websites.

First, I am blogging Christmas. The Bearded Christmas represents a time to rediscover the season during the month of December. Things might be a little slower here, but TBC is going full force. My wife is also contributing to the project.

Second, I am involved in a Christmas album made up of local musicians called The Manger Gathering. I helped record three tracks and am playing guitar for the concert event on December 21st. Go listen to the music on the website and consider bringing one home.

So Help Me God It’s Been 15 Years – The Freak Show

My intentions with this post is to talk about the dc Talk tour that supported Jesus Freak and have some video and pictures. The only video footage that comes up is from the Welcome to the Freak Show video that dc Talk put out. I have not been able to find any fan video or pictures. I would have been around 16 years old when this tour happened and was not as studious as I am now about having a camera with me. This was an era still not widely touched by the internet and cell phones, let alone cell phones with cameras. If someone has pictures or video, it is probably sitting on a shelf in some analog or physical picture format. If you have footage or pictures, please digitize and share.

So Help Me God It’s Been 15 Years – Jesus Freak on Video

Start your week of with a live viewing of Jesus Freak on the Freak Show Tour. One of the most awesome concerts I have been too. I have posted the video for I Wish We’d All Been Ready, which was on the Jesus Freak single (that makes it official Jesus Freak content).

So Help Me God It’s Been 15 Years – dc Talk Jesus Freak

Today, November 21st, 2010 marks 15 years for dc Talk’s Jesus Freak. It is weird to be at that point in my life where I can refer to things in 10 and 15 year blocks. Fifteen years ago some friends and myself skipped school to head to the city to buy an album that would be a significant part of my walk with Jesus Christ. Yes, you read that right, we skipped school. With blessings from our parents! I grew up with a unique group of friends. We loved music, we loved friendship, and Jesus was in the middle. Somehow our parents saw this and understood that it was more important for us to be excited about an album called “Jesus Freak” than push through another day of high school.

Due Credit

A friend showed up unannounced this evening with his two daughters. I met him at one of our Fight the Fade shows. He loves to talk. I love to hear him talk. Most of society would see him as very unconventional. Many people probably would not listen to him to begin with. The show that I met him at, I listened to what he had to say. God has really worked in his life. He came from a rough partying background. Our concert and music made a real impression on him. He then proceeded to come to many of our shows. Every time he would tell us how much our music and its message had spoken to and ministered to him.

Actions and Words

“Actions speak louder than words.” You have heard it before. In a similar vein St. Francis of Assisi stated “Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.” We all agree that what we do in life, our actions are very important.

I live in the music world. Specifically, the Christian music world. You would be hard pressed to find anyone in Nashville who knows my name. You can live in a world and not be noticed or known.

Oh Honestly!

I thought I would share the song that has occupied a large chunk of my music listening today. Music is medicine for my soul.

Decisions and My Playlist

Have you ever scanned through your iPod (or equivalent music player) and could not make a decision on what to listen too? Hundreds or even thousands of songs and you have no idea what to pump into your ears. I have found in this circumstance, put in on random. Let the player make the decision. I am never disappointed in what the random selector selects. I did make the list to begin with. I loaded everyone of these songs. In my case, I only have an eight gigabyte iPod, so only the really good stuff gets loaded. It is good to let go and enjoy the random surprise of music you already love.

I am sure this “letting go” is applicable in other areas of life too. I know God would appreciate it.

What have you found that letting go was the way to go?
